Located just north of downtown Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake, the 70-acre Yangon Zoological Gardens is Myanmar’s oldest zoo and second largest zoological park. First established in the early 1900s, this sprawling recreational space offers you a chance to discover nearly 200 animal species and more than 300 species of flora set amidst lush green surroundings. As you explore the grounds, you will encounter around 1,100 animals, including 145 species of land animals.

Keep an eye out for endangered species such as the Asian elephant, tiger, takin, Burmese large tortoise, great hornbill, marsh crocodile, and eld's deer. Beyond the living wildlife, the park hosts a variety of diverse family-friendly attractions. At the southern end, you can visit the Natural History Museum to view detailed taxidermy displays of rare Burmese fauna, guided by charts and captions written with the help of university zoology postgraduates.

Water lovers can explore the country's first large-scale aquarium, while thrill-seekers can head over to the amusement park to ride the roller coaster 2027. Open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, the zoo provides a vibrant, multi-faceted look into Myanmar's natural history and native wildlife.
