Sprawling over 113 acres along the Vishwamitri River, Sayaji Baug—also known as Kamati Baug—is one of the finest public gardens in Western India. Built in 1879 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III and maintained by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, this green sanctuary features rich flora with more than 98 tree species. You can explore a variety of attractions nestled within the park's grounds.
Visit the Baroda Museum & Picture Gallery, built in 1894 to resemble London's Victoria & Albert Museum, to admire Mughal miniatures and works by Turner and Constable. Discover the pyramid-shaped Sardar Patel Planetarium near the main gate, or tour the Sayaji Baug Zoo, which spans both riverbanks and houses Asiatic lions, a dedicated bird zoo, and an aquarium. Take a seat on the Joy Train departing from Swami Vivekananda Station for a 20-minute audio-guided heritage journey, or stop by the 20-foot floral clock, the first of its kind in Gujarat.
Do not miss the bronze statues of Arjan and Hari Koli, two brave brothers honored for saving the Maharaja from a lion. Accessible via three entrance gates, Sayaji Baug offers a pleasant view right in Vadodara.
