Located in the Xinghualing District of Taiyuan City within China's Shanxi province, the Taiyuan Ancient Mosque—originally named the Qingxiu Mosque—offers a unique window into the region's rich cultural heritage. First established in the 8th century CE during the Tang dynasty, the complex underwent multiple renovations and reconstructions after the 11th century, with its existing structures primarily dating back to the Ming dynasty. Travelers visiting this historic site will encounter a traditional Chinese architectural style organized around two main courtyards, or sahns.

As you explore the grounds, you can see a variety of key buildings including a decorated archway, an entrance gate, a sermon hall, and wudu ablution facilities. The highlight of the complex is the main prayer hall, which beautifully combines traditional Chinese and Islamic architectural styles into a unified design. This blending of traditions makes the mosque an engaging stop for those exploring the historical architecture of Taiyuan.

Easily accessible just west of the Taiyuan Railway Station, it is a peaceful, authentic cultural destination to add to your Shanxi itinerary.
