Translated from Hebrew as "Children of Peace," this historic Reform Jewish congregation was originally founded in 1876. When you visit, you are standing before the oldest synagogue building in continuous use in the entire state. Designed by architect R.H.

Hunt and built between 1898 and 1899, the striking brick structure features Romanesque Revival style architecture and sits as a contributing property within the Huntsville Old Town Historic District. The congregation faced early financial struggles at its initial rented room, went without a resident rabbi for fifty years, and later experienced a powerful revitalization in the 1950s as newcomers arrived to support NASA, the space program, and local Army commands.
