Welcome to The Walt Disney Family Museum, located in historic retrofitted buildings on the Presidio's Main Post in San Francisco, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Founded by Walt Disney's daughter, Diane Disney Miller, alongside Walt E. Disney Miller, this independent non-profit museum presents the extraordinary life and legacy of Walt Disney.
Through ten interactive permanent galleries, you can trace his journey from his ancestral history all the way to his death in 1966. Inside the 40,000-square-foot main building at 104 Montgomery Street, you will discover early drawings, animation, music listening stations, historic artifacts, and a detailed 12-foot diameter model of Disneyland. Step into the lobby to view 248 awards won throughout his career, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the unique Snow White Academy Award featuring one full-sized Oscar alongside seven miniature ones.
You can also admire pieces from his backyard Carolwood Pacific Railroad, such as his beloved Lilly Belle locomotive. Downstairs, a Fantasia-inspired digital theater screens Disney films daily, while major rotating exhibitions are hosted at the nearby Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall on Riley Avenue. It is a compelling storytelling space designed to bring Disney's true achievements vividly to life.
