Located right in the center of Chiang Mai, the Three Kings Monument is a central and historic royal monument dedicated to Phaya Mangrai, Pho Khun Ramkhamhaeng, and Phaya Ngammueang. You should visit to honor the legacy of these three rulers, who are considered the founding fathers of the Lanna Kingdom.

According to historical accounts, the kings formed a strong bond and chose a strategic location along the Ping River—surrounded by fertile plains and the towering Doi Suthep—to establish Chiang Mai as the capital in 1296 CE. When you visit, you will see a bronze sculpture designed and cast by national artist Kaimook Chuto, which stands 2.7 meters (8 feet 10 inches) high to commemorate the city's founding.

Completed in 1983 and officially opened in 1984 during a ceremony presided over by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Queen Sirikit, and Princess Sirindhorn, the monument overlooks a large open plaza. This public space sits at the heart of the city and serves as a vibrant gathering spot where you can take in local public life, cultural events, community gatherings, and traditional ceremonies.
