Welcome to the Wenzhou Museum, the city's first general museum located on Shifu Road in the Lucheng District. Originally established in May 1958 at Xingqing Temple on Jiangxin Islet, this impressive cultural institution now resides in a modern facility opened in 2004, whose striking architectural design was inspired by the local Yandang Mountains. As you step into the main lobby, you will be greeted by banyan tree sculptures and nine dramatic copper sculptures hanging on granite walls, depicting classic Chinese myths like Pangu separating heaven and earth and Yu the Great taming the floods.
Inside, you can explore an expansive exhibition space featuring more than 30,000 artifacts across 20 distinct categories. You will discover remarkable historic displays alongside dedicated galleries for pottery, painting, calligraphy, nature, handicrafts, and painted sculptures. Do not miss the specialized Wang Weixin Copperplate Exhibition Room or the remodeled history section, which officially reopened in May 2017.
Recognized as one of China's national first-grade museums, it offers you a rich, comprehensive dive into regional heritage, fine arts, and traditional craftsmanship under one roof.
