Why Westfield
Westfield is a suburban city in Hamilton County, Indiana, situated within the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area. Located in western Hamilton County, it sits immediately north of Indianapolis, sharing borders with Carmel to the south, Noblesville to the east, and Zionsville to the west in Boone County. Major transportation corridors serving the city include U.S. Route 31, which travels north to Kokomo and south toward the Indianapolis beltway, and Indiana State Road 32, which runs east and west through the town center as Main Street.
The settlement was founded in May 1834 by Asa Bales, Ambrose Osborne, and Simon Moon, who were Quakers from North Carolina. The early town was planned as a stop along the Underground Railroad, with support from local members of the Religious Society of Friends and the Wesleyan Methodist Church. The city's architectural and historical heritage includes the Union High Academy Historic District, a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A prominent feature of the city is the Grand Park Sports Complex, a massive facility opened in 2014. As the largest youth sports campus in the United States, it features 26 baseball and softball diamonds, 31 multipurpose outdoor fields, and a large indoor events center. The park includes over 10 miles of walking and cycling trails linked to the Monon Corridor, alongside substantial public green space. It functions as a venue for regional tournaments, the headquarters for Indy Eleven, and the annual summer training camp location for the Indianapolis Colts. Additional sports activities take place at venues like The Club at Chatham Hills, which hosts high-profile professional golf competitions.
The city continues to develop its central core, with local officials directing plans toward a major downtown revitalization that includes expanding civic facilities like the public library and building a new city hall.
