CBP Launches Unified Trusted Traveler Mobile App to Replace Global Entry App

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that it will officially phase out its standalone Global Entry Mobile application on September 15, 2026. In its place, the federal agency is launching a newly consolidated Trusted Traveler Mobile App designed to unify digital arrival processing across multiple federal border management initiatives into a single, modernized smartphone portal.

Global Entry is an established Department of Homeland Security trusted traveler initiative that grants expedited customs and border clearance to pre-approved, low-risk travelers returning to the United States. Historically, members completed arrival procedures using dedicated physical kiosks located in airport international arrivals halls. To further accelerate border processing and reduce congestion, federal authorities previously added smartphone functionality, allowing passengers to take selfies and submit landing declarations digitally upon touching down at participating international gateway airports.

The updated platform replaces both the original standalone Global Entry app and the secondary Trusted Traveler Programs software application. In addition to serving international air passengers arriving at participating airports across the country, the consolidated application incorporates digital processing features for members enrolled in NEXUS, SENTRI, and Free and Secure Trade programs across land and sea borders. Unifying these separate digital channels into a single gateway eliminates app store confusion and ensures consistent technology infrastructure across all federal entry operations.

This software overhaul comes as border authorities increasingly shift toward biometric identity verification and contactless passenger processing nationwide. By streamlining the digital interface, federal officials can roll out security patches and system updates more efficiently without requiring travelers to maintain multiple applications on their devices. Importantly, the transition does not alter existing member benefits, Known Traveler Numbers, or domestic TSA PreCheck privileges that come standard with Global Entry membership.

Current Global Entry and trusted traveler members do not need to reapply, submit new paperwork, or pay any additional membership fees because of this application change. Travelers returning from international trips on or after September 15, 2026, should download the new Trusted Traveler Mobile App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and log in using their existing federal credentials. While physical arrival kiosks remain fully functional at all major international airports, utilizing the updated mobile application allows eligible travelers to bypass long lines and complete clearance in minutes.
