Standing tall on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World) is a colossal neoclassical copper sculpture designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi with an internal metal framework built by Gustave Eiffel. Look closely to see her holding a radiant torch of progress in her right hand and a tabula ansata in her left, inscribed with July 4, 1776, in Roman numerals. Beneath her flowing robes, her feet step past a broken chain and shackle.
With a reservation, a limited number of visitors can even venture inside to access the rim of the pedestal and the interior of her crown.
