First established in 1981 and formally opened in 1988, the museum houses more than 20,000 historical and cultural relics, with the majority originating directly from within Shenzhen. You can explore its rich collections spread across four distinct sites: the Shenzhen Museum of Ancient Art on Tongxin Road, the Shenzhen Museum of History and Folk Culture at Civic Center on Jintian Road, the Dongjiang River Guerrilla Command Headquarters Memorial Museum in Luohu District, and the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall housed within the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning.

During your visit to the Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall, you will discover the dramatic shifts beginning in the 1980s. Highlights include historic artifacts from Deng Xiaoping's 1992 southern tour, such as the white Toyota van he rode in, office furniture from his hotel, and the Flying Sparrow spade he used to plant a tree.
