If you are exploring Windhoek, Namibia, a visit to Christ Church (Christuskirche) offers a fascinating look into the city's history and architectural heritage. Designed by architect Gottlieb Redecker, this historic Lutheran church belongs to the German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia. Originally known as the Church of Peace, it was constructed as a symbol of peace following wars between the Germans, Herero, and Nama.
As you admire the building, you will notice its unique mixture of Art Nouveau, neo-Romanesque, and Gothic Revival styles, built using local quartz sandstone mined near the Avis Dam.
