When you explore the central city neighborhood of Springfield, Illinois, make sure to visit the Hoogland Center for the Arts at 420 South Sixth Street. Spanning an impressive 80,000 square feet, this vibrant venue serves as a bustling home to 19 local organizations. Inside, you will find three distinct theaters alongside five smaller performance and exhibit spaces, providing a dedicated setting for Springfield's nonprofit theater companies, musical performances, and art galleries.

As you walk through the facility, you are experiencing over a century of heritage. Originally built in 1909 as a Masonic temple, the property saw a major expansion in 1960. A local developer purchased it in 2001, undertaking a massive $9.1 million renovation that gutted and rebuilt the interior into a modern arts complex.

Opening on December 31, 2003, it was later renamed in 2004 following a generous donation from Charles and Kay Hoogland. Whether you are taking in a local play, viewing gallery displays, or enjoying musical entertainment, you will love exploring this beautifully transformed historical landmark located right in central Springfield.
