Split Science museum 🇭🇷

Perched on Mount Marjan hill in Split, Croatia, the Split Science Museum (known locally as Prirodoslovni muzej i zoološki vrt grada Splita) offers a unique look at natural history and animal advocacy. Housed inside an old house, this modest institution features intriguing collections focusing on mineralogy and geology, along with other science displays. Following years of protests over animal conditions, the adjacent zoo announced its closure and relocation of exotic animals in 2014. Since 2015, an artists collective led by Hrvoje Cokarich has stepped in to help leftover animals, particularly donkeys that lost their original work purpose. International and Croatian artists participate in week-long residencies at the site, creating creative, alternative-purpose projects with and for the donkeys to help ensure their care and prevent extinction.

Participating artists include Vanja Pagar, Darko Skrobonja, Petar Pecur, and many others.
