Located roughly 600 meters north of Lund Cathedral in Lund, Sweden, All Saints Church (Allhelgonakyrkan) is a striking landmark worth visiting during your Swedish travels. Opened on All Saints' Day in 1891, this historic sanctuary belongs to the Lunds All Saints Parish within the Diocese of Lund. As you approach, you will immediately notice its soaring 72-meter neo-Gothic tower, designed by renowned architect Helgo Zettervall.
Standing as the second tallest building in Lund behind the Ideon Gateway, the tower can be seen far out over the surrounding plain and houses three bells cast by M & O Ohlsson bell foundry in Ystad, inaugurated in 1966. Inside this impressive church, which seats around 2,000 people, you will discover fascinating artistic details crafted by historic artisans. Be sure to examine the altar made of uncut cement and admire the intricate decorative paintings created by Svante Thulin.
You can also inspect the wooden altarpiece essay depicting a crucifix by Carl Johan Dyfverman, as well as the polished cement baptismal font with its copper bowl, executed by Sven Bengtsson. Following a major summer 2009 renovation that replaced 5,000 to 6,000 of its stones, this Gothic Revival beauty continues to offer a serene, detailed glimpse into local architectural history.
