Why Ojinaga Municipality
Ojinaga Municipality, officially designated as Manuel Ojinaga, is one of the 67 municipalities situated within the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. Bordering the United States, the region covers an expansive land area of approximately 9,500.5 square kilometers (3,668.16 square miles). The municipality takes its name from Manuel Ojinaga, a former governor associated with the political movement of Benito Juárez.
The administrative seat of the region is the rural border town of Ojinaga. According to census data from 2010, the municipality recorded a total population of 26,304 residents, with the main town housing 22,744 of those individuals. Beyond the municipal center, the territory encompasses 108 distinct localities, most of which are very small outlying communities. Among these rural settlements, the largest are El Oasis and Nueva Holanda.
Geographically, the municipality is bordered by several neighboring areas within Mexico as well as across the international boundary. To the north and northeast, Ojinaga directly touches Presidio County in the U.S. state of Texas. Within Chihuahua, it shares borders with the municipality of Manuel Benavides to the southeast, Camargo to the south, Julimes and Aldama to the southwest, Coyame del Sotol to the west, and Guadalupe to the northwest.
