Nestled in the western extremity of Sapporo within Chūō-ku, Asahiyama Memorial Park (Asahiyama Kinen Kōen) offers an incredible escape for travelers exploring Hokkaidō. Opened in 1970 to commemorate Sapporo's 100th anniversary and thoughtfully redeveloped in 2009, this picturesque park features a peak sitting 137.5 metres (451 ft) above sea level. When you visit, you will be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Sapporo and the distant Sea of Japan.

The lookout area is beautifully surrounded by sculpted gardens, featuring a terraced Italian flowerbed, a French geometric garden, a large lawn, an eye-catching fountain, and a Chinese arbor. Beyond the formal gardens lies the Learning Forest, where hiking paths wind through a rich canopy of Ezo alder, Ezo spruce, magnolia, and false acacia trees. Families and leisure travelers can enjoy a hanging bridge, playground, dedicated kids' space, rest house, and food and drink stands.

If you visit after dark, the illuminated fountain combined with the glowing lights of central Sapporo creates a romantic night view. Additionally, every July the park hosts the Sapporo Asahiyama Music Festival against the backdrop of the Toyohira Hanabi.
