Bursa Grand Mosque 🇹🇷

Located in the heart of Bursa’s historic old city near traditional markets, the Grand Mosque of Bursa (Bursa Ulu Cami) stands as a landmark monument of early Ottoman architecture. Sultan Bayezid I commissioned architect Ali Neccar to build this grand structure between 1396 and 1399 following his victory at the Battle of Nicopolis. As you explore the largest mosque in the Ottoman Empire's first capital, you will step inside a vast rectangular interior covered by twenty domes supported by twelve massive columns.

Inside, you can admire an extraordinary array of artistic treasures. Look up to see the central eighteen-cornered ablution fountain situated beneath a glass-covered dome skylight that brightens the hall. Inspect the intricate wooden minbar, handcrafted in 1400 using the glue-less, nail-less kundekari technique.

You will also experience a true 'calligraphy museum,' featuring 192 monumental wall inscriptions painted by 41 famed Ottoman calligraphers.
