When exploring Dalian in China's Liaoning province, you will find a distinct piece of local history tucked away in the Xigang District at 96 Beijing Jie. Built between 1922 and 1925, the historic Dalian Mosque offers you an intriguing glimpse into the area's rich heritage, standing as one of ten mosques documented in the city as of 2005.

The building itself is a striking three-storey structure completed in traditional Islamic style, covering an area of 1,200 square metres with capacity for up to 300 worshipers. As you approach the mosque, you can admire its exterior decoration of white and green glazed tiles, topped by a prominent entrance hall featuring a vibrant green dome and four huge corner towers.

Inside, the three levels serve specific functions that reflect its active religious life: the first floor houses the wudu for ablutions, the second floor contains the offices of the imams, and the third floor serves as the main prayer hall. Overseen for decades by ahong Hajji Bai Yunxing, who began his service in 1958, this resilient sanctuary presents a fascinating architectural stop for you while traveling through Dalian's urban center.
