Yuguang Street Church

If you are exploring Dalian, Liaoning, China, make sure to visit Yuguang Street Church, located just to the west of Zhongshan Square. Originally established on the premises of the British consulate in the early 20th century, this former Dalian Anglican Church saw its current second-generation building constructed in 1928 through a joint effort between the Church of England and the Anglican-Episcopal Church of Japan. Today, it stands proudly as an officially recognized Historical Protected Building of Dalian City.

When you visit, you will encounter a site deeply shaped by complex international history. Following World War II, its joint British ownership helped preserve it as an active Christian church under its modern name, Yuguang Street Church. Although its original stained glass windows were smashed during the Cultural Revolution when the site served as a venue for children's activities, Christian services eventually resumed in the early 1980s.

As you walk up to the entrance, take a moment to closely inspect the historical cornerstone to the right. Dedicated on May 6, 1928, by Bishop Francis Lushington Norris, this stone features a unique bilingual dedication written in English alongside vertical Japanese text.
