First Ward Park 🇺🇸

Located in the First Ward neighborhood of Uptown Charlotte, First Ward Park is a 4.6-acre urban sanctuary positioned at the corner of 7th and Brevard Streets. Unveiled during a December 2015 dedication ceremony, this vibrant public space marked the successful completion of a major park in every single one of Uptown Charlotte's four wards.

Designed by the renowned firm Shadley Associates following a national competition, the park serves as the structural keystone for a planned "First Ward Village." It was envisioned to create attractive, active spaces and focal points while acting as a development catalyst, drawing inspiration from the success of nearby Romare Bearden Park and BB&T Ballpark. As you explore the grounds, you will notice how the park seamlessly incorporates surrounding urban features, including the existing UNCC buildings and the historic Philip Carey building on 7th Street (formerly Dixie's Tavern), which was renovated into modern offices for Google Fiber's regional headquarters.

Set right adjacent to ImaginOn and the Lynx light rail tracks, it offers travelers an engaging, open-air spot to take in Charlotte's evolving architectural landscape, with planned neighboring additions including hotels, a wrapping apartment complex, parking facilities, and a future office tower.
