Set on the downtown riverfront in Mobile, Alabama, the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico (formerly GulfQuest) offers an immersive journey into the Gulf's maritime heritage, culture, and marine science. Spanning 120,000 square feet, the museum building is uniquely designed to resemble a ship headed out to sea. It stands as the only maritime museum dedicated strictly to the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the world's only fully interactive maritime museum.

At the center of the experience is the SS McLean, a full-sized replica container ship floating dockside inside the building, housing most of the attraction's 90 interactive exhibits across multiple decks. As you explore, you will discover hands-on displays, theaters, and simulators covering hurricanes, shipwrecks, sailing, and offshore drilling. You can take the controls of a panoramic pilot simulator in 'Take the Helm' to navigate the Port of Mobile, test your environmental decision-making in 'The Great Gulf Challenge,' explore global patterns at the suspended 'Ocean Planet Theater,' or learn historic nautical origins along the 'Seagoing Slang' walkways.

Complete your visit by browsing the museum store or dining at Mobile's only waterfront restaurant.
