Pay close attention to the building's distinctive roof; a original Ludowici clay tile roof was installed around 1918 and later carefully repaired with new tiles from the very same manufacturer following damage from Hurricane Frederic. Beyond its architectural merits, the site holds deep historical significance. It served as the original parish church for Saint Vincent de Paul Parish before combining with the neighboring Black parish, St.
Peter Claver, on December 25, 1970, to form Prince of Peace. Recognizing its immense cultural importance, the original church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 24, 1992.
