When you visit Hangzhou in the Zhejiang province of China, you will find the impressive Hangzhou Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the entire country. Administered by the Hangzhou Islamic Society, this magnificent site stands as an essential destination for travelers interested in local religious heritage. Historically, Hangzhou relied solely on the Phoenix Mosque, but as the local Muslim population increased in recent years, the need for a new mosque became urgent.

Although the mosque was built during the Yuan Dynasty, it was later included in a list of major construction projects in 2011. Approved by the Hangzhou Development and Reform Commission the following year, its foundation-laying ceremony was held on October 12, 2012. The mosque was completed in an Islamic style in 2016 and officially opened in May 2017.

When you step inside, you can see the prayer hall that consists of three square spaces, each covered with an Islamic-style brick dome. Located within easy walking distance south of the Hangzhou East railway station, it is a remarkable and accessible site to visit during your travels.
