Located at 1130 Bethel Street on the edge of Chinatown in downtown Honolulu, the historic Hawaii Theatre stands as the last surviving, operating historic theatre in the city. Originally opened in 1922 by the Consolidated Amusement Company and dubbed "The Pride of the Pacific," this venue once set the standard for local opulence. Today, you can visit this award-winning performing arts center to experience live stage shows, concerts, and performances by the resident Honolulu Symphony.
When you step inside, you will discover a stunning display of Beaux-Arts architecture. Look up to admire the gilded dome, Corinthian columns, and a magnificent Lionel Walden mural painted above the proscenium. The grand interior also features marble statuary, an art gallery, plush carpets, silk hangings, a single balcony, loge boxes, and private main floor boxes.
Outside, the theatre showcases a unique blend of Neoclassical, Byzantine, Corinthian, and Moorish architectural elements. Be sure to check out the replicated 1938 marquee outside, which glows with neon and modern electronic display panels.
