Located in the Wahiawā Plateau between the Waiʻanae and Koʻolau mountain ranges, this geographic piko (center) of the island translates to "to anchor the cry from within." From as early as 1100 until the mid-1600s, this sacred space served as the symbolically powerful birth site for Hawaiʻi's high chiefs, including famous aliʻi like Kakuhihewa and Maʻilikūkahi.

When you visit this 5-acre state park, you will encounter a complex featuring 36 stones that symbolize the 36 chief witnesses—including the father—who gathered to observe royal births announced by sacred drums. Beyond its royal lineage, the site offers a wide view of the skies, acting akin to a Hawaiian Stonehenge.

University of Hawaiʻi astronomers discovered designs and shapes carved into the stones, indicating ancient Hawaiians used marked positions and the sun's alignment over the Waiʻanae Range as a calendar to track celestial movements. It is an essential, quiet stop to reflect on Hawaiʻi's traditional leadership, astronomy, and heritage.
