Located in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, the Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is the largest mosque in the country and one of its two state mosques. Commissioned to honor the Silver Jubilee of the 29th Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, this magnificent 20-acre site officially opened in 1994. As you explore, you will discover architecture packed with symbolic detail honoring the 29 Sultans of Brunei, including 29 golden domes and a marble staircase with 29 steps.

Five water fountains on the grounds symbolize the five pillars of Islam and the five daily prayers. Inside the air-conditioned spaces, which can hold up to 5,000 worshipers, you will see luxurious global imports such as Italian marble, Persian carpets, Austrian strass crystal chandeliers, and Philippine hardwood. Be sure to look for the air muleh pattern incorporated into the minarets and glasswork, reflecting national Bruneian heritage.

You can also view the stunning mihrab decorated with 24-carat gold-plated tiles, or explore the on-site Ismail Omar Abdul Aziz library containing thousands of Islamic reference materials.
