Welcome to the Islamic Religio-Cultural Center, colloquially known as the Ljubljana Mosque. Located in the Bežigrad district of Slovenia's capital, this striking modern complex is the culmination of a decades-long effort by the Islamic Community of Slovenia. Although early attempts to secure permits began as far back as 1969—facing years of political debates, legal challenges, and referendum efforts—the project moved forward after a foundation stone was laid in September 2013.
The completed center officially opened its doors to the public in February 2020. Built on a plot situated between Kurilniška and Parmova streets, with access along Džamijska ulica, the project was developed with a construction cost projected at €12 million, supported significantly by a large donation from Qatar covering roughly 70 percent of the total. When you visit, you will encounter a multi-functional modern space designed to serve both spiritual and community needs.
As you explore the complex, you can see its distinct 40-meter-high minaret rising above the site. Inside the complex, you will find a serene ablution fountain, a comprehensive library, educational classroom spaces, alongside the administrative offices and residence quarters for the Imam. It stands today as a significant modern architectural and cultural landmark in Ljubljana.
