Welcome to Millennium Park, the largest public park in Abuja, Nigeria, located in the city's Maitama district. Inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on December 4, 2003, near the former Presidential Palace and key administrative buildings, this massive attraction was designed by Italian architect Manfredi Nicoletti and brings thousands of visitors together each day. Divided by a crossing river along its main axis, the park uniquely balances wild nature with structured design.
On one side, you can explore uncontaminated nature across terraced levels featuring Nigeria's varied vegetation—including mountain flora, savanna, deciduous forest, rainforest, and brushwood—alongside greenhouses filled with butterflies and tropical birds. The opposite side, accessible from the main road entrance, focuses on the scientific knowledge of the natural environment through a traditional Italian Style Garden Layout. Here, you will stroll along a rectilinear path paved with Roman white travertine that visually connects the holy Cotton Tree to Aso Rock.
As you walk, a series of refreshing fountains run alongside the white path to cool you off on the hottest days, while vibrant wave-like bushes in yellow and red line the trident-geometry layout and its huge polygonal pools.
