Located in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, the National Christian Centre (also known as the National Church of Nigeria or National Ecumenical Centre) is a striking non-denominational Christian church building. Designed by the Lagos-based Nigerian architectural firm Darchiwork Group, the church showcases a Postmodern version of the Neo-Gothic style. You will find a captivating space featuring pivoted arches and a wide nave leading toward the focal point of the interior: a central altar that completes a full rotation every ten minutes.
As you explore, look for the pipe organ fitted in the right wing near the choir seating, as well as the stained glass windows placed all around the church that feature a simple yet attractive mix of yellow, green, and red colors. Project work began around 1989 and lay dormant for several years before being fast-tracked for completion by a Christian Association of Nigeria committee in 2004. The church was officially dedicated on October 2, 2005, during Nigeria's 45th independence anniversary, in a service presided over by the Most Reverend Peter Akinola, Anglican Primate of Nigeria.
