Located in Casablanca's Oasis neighborhood, the Museum of Moroccan Judaism offers you a rare look into Jewish life in Morocco. Founded in 1997 and rededicated by King Mohammed VI in 2016, this site stands as the only museum devoted to Judaism in the Arab world. Housed in a 1948 former Jewish orphanage that once sheltered up to 160 youth, the 700-square-meter facility features a large multipurpose room and three exhibition spaces.
As you explore, you will discover paintings, photographs, sculptures, ritual objects, historic documents, traditional costumes, and intricate jewelry reflecting religious and family traditions. Highlights include reconstructed Moroccan synagogues, Jewish Berber artifacts, khmisa pendants, and a reconstructed silversmith workshop featuring the workbench and tools of Saul Cohen. You can also view Torah scrolls, mezuzahs, a Hanukkah menorah, the 1944 bimah from Casablanca's Beni-Issakhar Synagogue, and the historic Megilat Hitler scroll written by Asher Ḥassin.
Don't miss the preamble of Morocco's 2011 constitution on display, which recognizes Hebraic influences as a foundational pillar of national unity, along with a massive collection of Judaica art donated by opera singer David Serero.
