Located less than an hour's drive from Panama City at kilometer 18 on the road to Gamboa, Parque Municipal Summit offers a fascinating escape into central Panama's rich nature. Spanning 250 hectares right next to Soberania National Park, this destination serves as both a botanical garden and a rescue center for exotic and native wildlife. Originally created in 1923 as an experimental farm that famously introduced teak to the American continent, the site evolved into a research center for tropical biology and horticulture, eventually opening its well-kept zoo in the 1960s.

Today, you can explore 55 hectares of botanical grounds showcasing tropical plant species from around the globe and Panama, many used for food, medicines, construction, or ornament. Beyond the plant life, you will encounter rescued animals that cannot be returned to the wild. The park hosts about 300 creatures, including sloths, jaguars, pumas, ocelots, margays, monkeys, alligators, coyotes, and various native birds.

You won't want to miss seeing the magnificent harpy eagle, the national bird of Panama. Whether you are interested in plant research history or native animals, Summit Municipal Park delivers an educational, inspiring window into Central American biodiversity.
