People’s Park

If you are exploring central Nanchang in Jiangxi province, China, make sure you spend time at People's Park. Spanning 32.6 hectares (81 acres) in the Donghu District, this popular green space holds the title of the largest park in downtown Nanchang. As you stroll through its serene grounds, you will experience the classic layout of traditional Jiangnan-style Chinese gardens, complete with a lush canopy of more than 14,000 trees representing 175 different species.

First established in 1954 as New Park before taking its current name in 1958, the site is well-loved by both local residents and visiting travelers. One of the main features you must see is the park's historic orchid garden, which was originally created in 1963 based on a suggestion by Marshal Zhu De. You can even admire Zhu's calligraphy, as the park's official name inscription was crafted by his hand.

Conveniently located at 96 Fuzhou Road—just south of the Jiangxi Stadium and north of the old Jiangxi Provincial Government—this charming urban refuge offers you a wonderful, authentic taste of local culture and nature right in the center of the city.
