Originally built in 1833, this remarkable rectangular brick structure stands as a striking example of Jeffersonian Roman Revival architecture. The front facade commands attention with four wide wooden Doric order pilasters alongside two round Doric order columns situated right at the front edge of its recessed portico. Beyond its stunning visual design, this sacred site carries deep historical significance. After suffering severe damage during the American Civil War, the building was lovingly restored in 1866.

During the conflict, the church served both Union and Confederate soldiers in their time of need. Most notably, it was inside these very walls that famous nurse Clara Barton came to tend to the wounded following the Battle of Fredericksburg in 1862. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, a stop at this historic sanctuary allows you to reflect on pivotal moments in the nation's past while taking in exquisite nineteenth-century craftsmanship.
