Located in Yerevan's Kentron District right next to the General Andranik metro station, Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral is the largest cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church and a striking landmark visible from many parts of the city. Designed by architect Stepan Kurkchyan and completed in 2001, this massive complex was built to mark the 1700th anniversary of Armenia declaring Christianity as its state religion.

When you visit, you will explore an enormous modern structure covering around 3,822 square meters, featuring a main church with 1,700 seats alongside the smaller chapels of Saint Tiridates the King and Saint Ashkhen the Queen. As you walk through the entrance, you will notice the impressionable belfry tower boasting over 30 arches and a grand court.

Inside, the well-lit nave houses an organ, uniquely provided seating, and the narthex where you can pay respects at the reliquary containing the holy relics of Saint Gregory brought from Naples, Italy. Standing 54 meters tall to the top of its cross, it offers travelers an impressive look at historic faith expressed through contemporary Armenian architecture.
