You will find the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, locally known as Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali, in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Built in 1572/1573 CE (980 AH) by Sidi Sayyad—also known as Shaikh Sa'id Al-Habshi Sultani, a prominent Habshi nobleman—this Sunni mosque is designated as a Monument of National Importance. Constructed during the final year of the Gujarat Sultanate, the site replaced a smaller brick mosque and stands as a remarkable historic landmark.

When you visit, you can marvel at its entirely arcuated architecture, most notably the ten intricately carved stone latticework windows, or jalis, located along the side and rear arches. The rear wall features square stone pierced panels displaying detailed geometrical designs. Be sure to examine the stone slabs flanking the central aisle, which are carved with breathtaking patterns of intertwined trees, foliage, and a palm motif.

This famous lattice stone window served as the inspiration for the logo of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and acts as the unofficial symbol of the city. You will also notice that the central window arch is walled with stone rather than carved jali, likely because Mughal invasions interrupted its completion.
