Soyuz carrier rocket monument

Located in the center of Samara on Lenina Avenue, between Novo-Sadovaya and Chelyuskintsev Streets and right next to the Rossiyskaya metro station, the Soyuz carrier rocket monument offers an unforgettable look into Russian aerospace history. Dedicated to local rocket builders, the monument was unveiled on October 1, 2001, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic first manned spaceflight. When you visit, you will stand before a massive, authentic R-7 11A511 (Soyuz) rocket originally built in 1984 at the Kuybyshev Progress Rocket Space Centre.

Used for crew training at Plesetsk Cosmodrome until 1999, this 50-meter, 20-ton rocket is painted in striking white and orange colors and mounted directly onto the Space museum building, supported by a heavy 53-ton structure. Opened on April 12, 2007, and designed by architects Zhukov and Checherin, the Space museum itself houses impressive collections of rocket-and-space equipment. Inside, you can examine unique displays including rocket engine mockups as well as Yantar 4K1 and Resurs F1 landing sections.

It is an inspiring stop that highlights the incredible legacy of space exploration.
