Situated on Shyamala Hills in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, India, the State Museum Bhopal serves as the state's flagship museum. It holds a prominent role among local monuments and museums, drawing visitors with its contemporary architecture, wide spaces accessible by ramps, and abundant natural light within a facility inaugurated in 2005. You should visit to explore a vast inventory of art and cultural artefacts spread across seventeen specialized, thematic galleries.

During your walk through the main building, you will discover prehistory and fossils, ancient inscriptions, excavated materials, Bagh Caves paintings, medieval arms and armoury, and royal collections from princely states. Art enthusiasts can admire miniature paintings, illuminated manuscripts, metal bronzes, rare musical instruments, textiles, costumes, coinage, and autographs. Among its notable displays are 84 rare 12th-century Jain bronzes, rock-cut reproductions of Bagh Caves Buddhist murals, miniature paintings depicting events from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and an extensive sculpture collection containing ancient works from the 8th to 12th centuries, 200 BC Yakshini statues, and a black granite Buddha.

You can also view historical items in the Freedom Movement gallery and an 1840 Penny Black, the world's first postage stamp.
