The Blue Mosque (Kapuyt mzkit') is an 18th-century Iranian Twelver Shia mosque in Yerevan, Armenia, commissioned in 1765–1766 by Hoseyn Ali Khan. It is the only active mosque in Armenia today and stands as one of central Yerevan's oldest extant structures, representing the most significant remnant of the city's Iranian period. When you enter from Mashtots Avenue, you will descend a flight of steps to reach the mosque, situated more than two meters below street level. Inside the 7,000-square-meter grounds, you will see a prominent 24-meter-tall minaret featuring a seven-degree slope, elegant tile patterns, brickwork, and early Qajar-style arcade façades. The pleasant courtyard houses 24 arched cells surrounding a central pool and rose garden.
Visitors can view the main prayer area with three mihrabs and holy inscriptions, admire high-merit floral ceiling paintings in the northern building, and explore the Hafez Persian library containing over 8,000 items. Today, this historic landmark functions as a vibrant cultural bridge and sanctuary for prayer, learning, and gathering.
