Tripoli Zoo, located south of Tripoli's city center adjacent to Tarabulus Zoo Park, stands as Libya's largest zoological garden and botanical garden. When you visit this expansive reserve, you will find open green spaces alongside a variety of plants and trees. Serving as one of Abu Salim's local and tourist attractions, the facility offers a unique look at a destination that has endured a tumultuous recent history.

During the Libyan Civil War, the zoo was forced to close for safety reasons, leaving its animals distressed while facing financial and security struggles. In 2013, sections were used as a detention center for immigrants. The site faced further hardship in May 2025 when armed clashes led to animals, including lions and antelopes, being stolen or slaughtered.

However, following the death of an influential leader named Abdelghani Al-Kikli in late 2025, Tripoli Zoo successfully reopened under new management. Although it is missing a few animals, the zoo remains open and operational. If you visit today, you can explore the country's biggest zoo, wander through its large reserve of trees and plants, and support an active tourist attraction in the Abu Salim area.
