Located at 300 Westminster Street at Mathewson Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island, Grace Church is a historic Episcopal church rich in architectural significance. Built between 1845 and 1846, the current structure was designed by Richard Upjohn, the premier architect of his era. As you explore this simple Gothic Revival landmark, you will be standing before the very first building where Upjohn introduced asymmetry into a church's massing.

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 as part of the Downtown Providence Historic District, the site has evolved significantly over time. Discover the 1912 parish house designed by Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson, which links to the main sanctuary via narrow, twisting stairwells and passages. The complex also features a single-story, glass-enclosed addition designed to expand event spaces following a multimillion-dollar restoration effort.

A short distance away in the Trinity Square Historic District, you can visit the church's triangular cemetery, home to an 1859 Gothic Revival caretaker's cottage and the final resting places of notable figures such as Governor Elisha Dyer, architect Russell Warren, and famed soprano Matilda Sissieretta Joyner Jones.
