Located in Kaleiçi, the historic old town center of Antalya, Turkey, the Yivli Minaret Mosque (Yivli Minare Camii) stands as one of the city's most important landmarks and a defining feature of its skyline. Situated along Cumhuriyet Street near Kalekapısı Square, this active place of worship offers you a fascinating glimpse into early Anatolian multi-domed religious architecture. Originally built around 1230 under Seljuk ruler Alaaddin Keykubad I on the site of a ruined Byzantine church, the structure was later rebuilt in 1373 by Mehmet Bey of the Hamidids dynasty.
As you explore the site, you will see its famous 38-meter-high fluted red brick minaret rising from a massive square stone base, still showing visible traces of its original turquoise and dark blue tilework. Inside, the rectangular prayer hall features six domes supported by twelve columns with reused Roman or Byzantine capitals, reflecting minimalist early Seljuk aesthetic principles. Be sure to look down during your visit, as a glass floor section reveals historic water channels that were uncovered beneath the structure during extensive restoration work completed between 2007 and 2010.
It is a remarkable, historic stop you should definitely experience while exploring old town.
