Originally constructed by the ruling Roman Empire in the second century CE, the tower was transformed from a square layout into a circular shape during that very same century. Notice the upper section, where visible signs of restoration work highlight contributions from the Seljuk and Ottoman eras.
Its name stems from Hıdırellez, a spring festival where cultures believe Khidr and Elijah meet annually. The tower even played a role in modern history during the 1919 to 1922 Italian occupation before returning to Turkish forces. You will find an eastern gate leading to a room and staircase.
