Located on St. Michael's Row just two blocks east of National Heroes Square in central Bridgetown, the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael and All Angels is a remarkable piece of Barbadian history. As the tallest Anglican house of worship in Barbados, this active place of regular worship invites you to step inside a rich past.

Originally built as a small wooden parish church between 1628 and 1630 on the site where St. Mary's Anglican Church now stands, the original structure was destroyed by a hurricane in 1780. Rebuilt nine years later out of beautiful coral stone, it was reconsecrated in 1789 and elevated to cathedral status in 1825.

When you visit, you will admire its striking tower, stunning stained glass windows, and a historic marble baptismal font dating back to the 17th century. Be sure to explore the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, added in 1938, which features a roof covered in wallaba heartwood shingles alongside a Canterbury Cross on its northern wall. Outside, take a peaceful stroll through the historic graveyard, where prominent figures such as Grantley Adams, Tom Adams, and William Brandford Griffith are laid to rest.
