St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Bridgetown

Welcome to St. Patrick's Cathedral in Bridgetown, Barbados, a historic site serving as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgetown. Along with the Anglican Cathedral of St. Michael, it stands as one of only two cathedrals in the territory.

Originally built in 1848, the cathedral faced tragedy when it was virtually destroyed by a fire in 1897—a disaster suspected to have been started by Protestant elements. Demonstrating incredible resilience, a new cathedral church was promptly constructed by 1899 and consecrated on August 23, 1903. The site officially attained its cathedral status in 1970 following the establishment of the Diocese of Bridgetown (Dioecesis Pontipolitana).

Today, as you visit this active house of worship, you can appreciate a space that hosts regular Catholic religious services, houses a training center, and displays a fascinating collection of heraldic plates.
