Located on Synagogue Lane in Bridgetown, Barbados, the Nidḥe Israel Synagogue is a Conservative Jewish congregation and one of the oldest synagogues in the Western hemisphere. Originally built in 1654, destroyed by a hurricane in 1831, and later rebuilt, it underwent years of disrepair, deconsecration, and structural changes before being saved from demolition by the Barbados Government and restored under Sir Paul Altman's leadership.
