Welcome to the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque, also known as the Lower Govhar Agha Mosque, situated in the lower section of historic Shusha, Azerbaijan. When you visit this sacred destination, you are stepping into a profound piece of regional heritage. Ordered by Govhar Agha, the daughter of Ibrahim Khalil Khan of the Karabakh Khanate, this mosque was completed approximately eight years prior to its upper counterpart, the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque.

As you explore the site, pay close attention to its unique architectural design. Unlike the upper mosque, which features minarets on its front façade, this structure features minarets anchored at the corners of its rear façade. The mosque endured a challenging past, suffering severe damage and desecration from heavy shelling by Armenian armoured units during the town's occupation, leaving it in a semi-destroyed state for many years.

Despite previous claims of work, photos taken by visiting Azerbaijani delegations confirmed it remained badly damaged for a long period. However, a major restoration funded with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was completed in 2024, revitalizing this historic site. Visiting today allows you to appreciate its enduring resilience, distinct architectural beauty, and vital cultural significance.
